Scientific Literacy: A Modest Proposal

Robinson Professors Robert Hazen and James Trefil co-authored a chapter for a book titled Science and the Educated American: A Core Component of Liberal Education. The title of their chapter is “Scientific Literacy: A Modest Proposal.”  Their “modest proposal for achieving scientific literacy recommends reaching out to non-science majors with courses that place science–in its broadest sense–within a context that is relevant and accessible to all undergraduates.” Within the chapter they define scientific literacy, propose a teaching strategy, and explore twenty great ideas of science.
